*Michael Cain's EXTra Spaceman Band performing at Aqua Books. Oct 15th, Winnipeg, MB.

The Spaceman Band has Cain on keyboards and electric bass, and features a lineup of former and current Brandon University music students with him. The band's music is written by Cain and contains his usual eclectic sensibilities, combining elements of jazz, rock, funk, afrobeat, and folk music into a unique blend of very personable, danceable, and satisfying music.

*Commisioned to write a piece for the Brandon Chamber Players for the 2011-12 season, world premiere in April 2012. The piece will feature Leanne Zacharias on cello, Joel Brennan on trumpet, Cathy Wood on clarinet, and Kerry Duwors on violin, among others.

* The Michael Cain Trio Performed at the Jazz Gallery in New York, Saturday, July 23rd, with Lonnie Plaxico and Dan Weiss drums.

*Taught session at SIM (School for Improvistional Music), July 26th, NYC.

* Performed at the Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival, Thursday, August 25th, with Greg Gatien on sax.

*Visiting artist at St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Nov 16-17 2011.

*Duo Piano Concert, with Chris Andrew. At the Bassment, Saskatoon. SK, Saturday, May 26th, 2012.

It features Jack DeJohnette on drums, Lonnie Plaxico on bass, vocalists Melissa Rose and Tondrae Kemp, and guitarist Matthew Fricke., as well as poetry by author Mia Neat. It's a journey through Electronic, R&Bish, Soulville vibes, as well as piano/bass/drums Jazz trio vibrations. *The most recent recording "Traverse" for Brian Landrus, a wonderful bari sax and bass clarinet player. This recording features Billy Hart on drums and Lonnie Plaxico on bass.
